London Kurdish Film Festival

We are back!

We are pleased to announce that the 11th London Kurdish Film Festival will be going ahead with an Online Festival Edition! The LKFF 11th Online Edition will take place from 15th - 24th August 2020, and all screenings will be FREE of charge for everyone to stream from home, anywhere in the world.  Adapting to the extraordinary challenges of this year, LKFF will be presenting you with a unique programme focusing exclusively on short films. We have carefully curated a thematic programme showcasing a selection of fiction, documentary and animation film titles. Our themes include; Beyond Borders, The Struggle Continues, Women in Film, War on Screen, Once Upon a Time in Kurdistan and Children in Film.

London Kurdish Film Festival is made up of a team of film lovers and we regard this festival as an opportunity for us to celebrate Kurdish cinema from all corners of the world, accessible to a global audience. We believe that we have a responsibility to aid up-and-coming filmmakers by providing a platform to exhibit their underexposed films and further enrich the independent film industry with new talent and stories.

With a fresh new look and energy, the 11th Edition of LKFF will deliver you 50 online film screenings, with each film scheduled to premiering live, followed by exclusive Q&A’s, interviews, panel discussions and masterclasses. These will be hosted by exciting industry experts who will provide a deeper insight and the necessary tools and education to navigate the film industry. Our virtual premieres and events will also be free to access for our UK, Kurdish and global audiences. Continuing with our standing tradition of festival competitions and awards, the official LKFF panel of juries will award the winning recipients with the Yilmaz Guney Best Short Film Award and Jury Special Mentions, followed by the LKFF MC Honorary Award.

This year has been challenging for many live cultural events around the world. LKFF has managed to respond to these by undergoing a positive restructuring of the organisation, bringing on board new members and experts of Kurdish cinema that have revitalised the festival with a newfound energy. This year has given us the opportunity to creatively think of innovative ways to make this festival more accessible for our audiences. On that note, we are very happy to announce our partners for this year; British Film Institute (BFI), Film Audience Network (FAN) and Film Feels Connected who believe and support the work we do here at the London Kurdish Film Festival. We would like to take this opportunity to extend our thanks to our sponsors who, through their donations, facilitated these festivals and enabled us to introduce Kurdish creativity and artistic productivity from all over the world to the Kurdish community in London as well as the UK public.

With the festival kicking off next month, LKFF would like to warmly invite you all to experience and connect with the most accessible version of the festival yet and enjoy 10 days filled with a rich selection of films and interactive activities across our programme. We look forward to connecting with you all then!
