Our LKFF Programming Director, Kaveh Abbasian shares with IranWire reporter Awat Pouri about the 11th LKFF edition going online.

"The festival will be running from 15th - 24th August on the LKFF YouTube channel. Kaveh highlights this year's film programme, the challenges that the pandemic has had on the LKFF and the importance of Kurdish Cinema. Although the London Kurdish Film Festival was due to take place in April/May 2020, the outbreak of COVID-19 resulted in the cancellation of this year's initial edition of the festival. However, despite these challenges, it provided LKFF with an opportunity to be able to reach a wider audience. For the first time since the establishment of the LKFF, people in Kurdistan will be able to view the LKFF film programme live, from the comfort of their own homes.
The themes of the 11th LKFF edition include Beyond Borders, The Struggle Continues, Women in Film, War on Screen, Once Upon A Time in Kurdistan and Children in Film. Kaveh Abbasian highlighted the wide diversity of films in this years programme. The selection of short films that will be showcased in the 11th Online Edition of the LKFF include films like The Pattern, which caught the attention of IranWire, a short animation under the theme of War on Screen, directed by Azad Jannati. Inspired by the true events pertaining to the 1988 chemical attack on Halabja, this film captures the last moments of a traditional rug being woven with the rug weaver reflecting on her range of emotions and experiences.
In the 11th LKFF Online Edition, there will be four awards received by the winning films. These will be the 7th Yilmaz Güney Best Short Film Award, LKFF Honorary Award and two Jury Special Mentions."
