Suncem Koçer holds PhD in Anthropology and Communication from Indiana University, USA. Her dissertation has dealt with Kurdish cinema as a transnational platform for identity politics. Koçer has published several articles on Kurdish cinema, documentary film, and transnational media production and co-produced two documentary films. Since 2011, she has worked as a producer and anchor in IMC TV. Öteki Sinema, one of the programs she produces, cultivates cinema culture in Turkey. An assistant professor of Communications at Kadir Has University in Istanbul, Koçer teaches courses on media, news, propaganda, and communication.
A Filmmaker and accomplished theatre director, actress and singer, Julia’s performance background started at the age of seven when she joined the Stella Greenfield Academy of Drama, subsequently winning numerous drama awards. After studying at the University College London; obtaining a bachelor of Arts in English Literature, she subsequently starred in the first British touring production of THE MEDEA; directed by Peter Meineck, touring extensively on the east coast of America. There, she went on to work with the acclaimed theatre producer Esquire Jauchem, whilst studying film and theatre at UCLA California and the Theatre of Arts in Hollywood. She is also a graduate of both film and documentary filmmaking. In 2007, her work caught the attention of both Working Title and BBC Head Comedy Commissioning Mark Freeland, who has called it “exceptional, fresh, original and inspiring.”
Laura is an independent Writer / Director with the Skillset accredited MA in Creative Writing (Playwriting and Screenwriting) from City University. She brings a background in advertising and her work to date includes short film, commercials, music videos and theatre. Laura’s first film, By Hook (2010) – a “visually sumptuous work” (The Guardian) – was funded by Film London, shortlisted for the Virgin Media Shorts, and screened in Picturehouse Cinemas nationwide. In 2012, she became a finalist in The Pitch competition with her Sci-Fi idea Magi. In 2014 she was selected for Sheffield Doc Fest’s Fast Track To Features programme. In 2015, Laura judged for the Recovery Street Film Festival for the second year running, and she also returns to the London Kurdish Film Festival as a judge for the second time.

Peri Ibrahim is a filmmaker and writer of some 20 years. Starting his career in documentary film, in particular war correspondence and political journalism he has worked with the BBC, Channel 4, CNN, Arte TV, France 24, Roj TV and Media TV. He was the artistic director of Rojhelat touring theatre group (1989-1993) and has been widely published in the UK and Europe. He now works as an independent filmmaker in both documentary and drama. His BAFTA nominated docu-feature ‘Kurdi’ continues to be screened at International Film festivals throughout the world.
Shler is a writer, director, and producer. She is a graduate of Goldsmiths University, of London with an MA in feature Film. In 2005 she won London Script Consultancy’s award for pitching her feature film script Green Desert, in the Big Pitch Competition at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2009 she produced Chaplin’s of the Mountains, a film by the Kurdish- American director Jano Rosebiani. She also wrote and directed her documentary the Gas Attack and other short dramas the Gift, and Hanar’s Day Out. She has been a member of the selection committee of the London Kurdish Film Festival since 2011. From her other credits is the Falling Leaves, I am 18, When the Music Starts, and the Sombre Moment.
