When Sakar's father Arsalan is imprisoned during the Saddam regime she is raised by her aunt in Kirkuk. After her father is freed, they settle in Sulaimania where Arsalan works in a bakery and Sakar makes carpets. Even though Sakar cannot remember her childhood her father and aunt tell her about it.

Kirkuk is situated in the north of Iraq with a population of Kurds, Arabs, Turcoman, Assyrians and other ethnic groups. Local referendums which are supposedly to be held this year will finally decide whether this 5000 years old city will be included in the Kurdish region or not. A young Kurdish photographer explores the memories of his deported family, the troubled history of the city, its ethnic and religious complexity and the brewing conflicts at the dawn of a historical new beginning.
